New Year’s Resolutions…

Hands up all of you who made a New Year’s Resolution at New Year’s? Who has managed to keep to those resolutions so far? Come on… be honest… yes, I’m talking to you… you can tell me, I promise I won’t tell anyone… we’ve been there and done that. It’s not easy sticking to those resolutions. If you’re one of those who’ve managed to keep to that New Year’s Resolution, I applaud you. It’s day 28 (here in Australia) into the New Year and if you’re sticking to that resolution, then, that is true commitment and a strong determination to keep going and not give up! Well done! Keep going and do not give up now because you can do it, no matter what 🙂

I’m one of those people who do not make New Year’s Resolutions because I’m just no good with the carry through, I simply just do not stick to them. I may be committed and all serious about them for a day or two, or a week or two if I’m lucky but after that, they’re basically forgotten about.

This year, I didn’t make a New Year’s Resolution as such. What I did do was to promise myself to lose some weight.

You see, I’ve been doing Weight Watchers for the last six years. I was losing weight too but then the old eating habits slowly crept back in because I had lost my motivation and I got lazy, so most of the weight I had lost, slowly found its way back again. Fortunately, I haven’t been back at my starting weight again but I’ve come close to it though but I haven’t gone over it. I’m certainly not intending to do that one! I may be crazy for my backward slide but I’m not that crazy!

The last two years the motivation has been MIA (Missing in Action) but at least I’ve still gone to the meetings, weighed in, made Weight Watchers richer giving them my money and in the process I’ve only been wasting my money.

Well, no more! The year 2013 is the year to get serious again! I’ve now dug out my motivation again and I’m going to use it to help me lose the weight. No more making Weight Watchers richer, no more wasting my money, I’m just going to get on with it and do it!

So far and so good!

Watch this space 🙂

Until next time

Beware of the Boogie Man…

I love social media! I love meeting new people around the world through Twitter, in particular, and talking with them, learning new things, learning about their cultures and about their part of the world. I love the exchange and I love the interaction with the different people.

With the world and all its time zones, Twitter has no time zones, it’s all here and now. Also the world doesn’t seem such a big place with Twitter, or with the other social media sites that are out there on the www’s.

My Facebook is my “inner sanctum”, that’s reserved for the  people who I call my family and my friends. There are people I’ve met through Twitter who I have Friended on FB, as I’ve gotten to know them because I consider them to be friends and so they become a part of my “FB Family”.

On the other side of the coin, one of the things I dislike about social media are the people who hide behind a computer keyboard, or a phone, who don’t have a profile picture that shows their face, they’re the ones who use a nickname, and not their own name and by doing this, they feel that by being “anonymous”, they can say hateful and hurtful things to, or about, another person. The only thing those people are, are cowards. Period. Try doing the same with your face in the profile picture and using your own name, you wouldn’t do it.

The other thing I dislike is the fact that there are those who use social media to gain the friendship, trust, of another person, and eventually arrange to meet that person but only for a more sinister purpose. Too many people have met their death, or have been raped at the hands of someone they’ve met online. Someone who isn’t what they said they were, someone who shouldn’t have been trusted in the first place.

I do have my own “safeguards” in place. With my Facebook, I only Friend people I know. With Twitter, I’m good with the “block” button. Weirdos will be blocked in a flash.

I’m happy to say I’ve met more good people than bad online. I’ve made good, long lasting, forever friendships and I’ve learnt many things about the people I’ve met and their parts of the world. The good certainly outweighs the bad.

But when online… beware of the Boogie Man because even though they’re not hiding under the bed or in the wardrobe, they’ll be found out there in cyberspace.

Until next time…

More about me…

For the last 4 years I have been trying to lose weight. I’m one of those people who are, “I’m not fat, I’m just too short for my weight”. The old Weight Watchers Points programme was working for me. I had lost just over 10kgs before they changed the programme to the current ProPoints system. In the process of trying to work out their latest system and trying to find out what works for me, I ended up putting it all in the ‘too hard basket’. The old system was working for me and then they had to go and change it completely on me. Now the weight, over the course of a year, has come back again. Happens when you have more weight gains than losses. At least I haven’t put on even more weight than what I started with!

I’ve now gotten to that stage in life where I need to stop sabotaging myself in my weight loss journey by continually putting it off and saying I’ll start to get serious about it “tomorrow”. Tomorrow never comes, so the time is NOW to do something about it and not wait until “tomorrow”.

No more excuses, no more not making myself accountable for what I put inside my body. After all, a minute on the lips IS a lifetime on the hips!

I still go to the Weight Watchers meetings and I’m an online member, so I can access the eTools, recipes, forums, etc there, I just have to get in the habit of getting on there more regularly than what I do now. I guess you could call me one of those many people who are guilty of making Weight Watchers rich by constantly paying my money and not putting in a better effort to lose the weight.

So now it’s time to get serious.

It’s time take the Weight Watchers meetings seriously, the information provided by the leader and other members do help in a persons weight loss journey. The support we give each other is invaluable too and you do need support to help you to lose weight. Those who do not have support in their weight loss journey are at the greatest risk of failing to lose weight.

It’s time to get serious about tracking everything I eat and drink, and since carrying a pad and pen around all day and using that to write down everything is a pain, especially if you’re having a busy day, so my way around that is to use the free MyFitnessPal app I have on my phone and that keeps track of my calorie intake. It also sync’s your information to their free website. Very useful tool since Weight Watchers doesn’t have an official app for Android phones, so I have to improvise.

It’s time to get serious about moving more and not just sit on my butt for most of my day.

The weight I have to lose won’t come off overnight but by setting small goals for myself and taking however long it takes until I reach my goal weight, I will get there in the end.

Thanks for reading

What a difference a new coach makes…

The Adelaide Football Club is certainly a different club this year than what they were last year.

Last year the Crows were a team that had lost its way. They struggled to play the whole four quarters of a game, much less actually win a game. The wheels had definitely fallen off and the team resembled something of a train wreck in progress.

The Crows also found out who their supporters were and they found out who their barrackers were as well. For it’s the supporters who are the ones who  continually put their bums on seats at the games week in and week out when their team is going from bad to worse, while the barrackers only put their bums on seats when the team is winning the games and they are the ones who have the cheek to call themselves “supporters”. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a supporter. My backside was still there on my seat (I am a Silver member) at all the home games and I was still cheering them on, even when they were losing another game.

That was last year. This year with a new coach at the helm, the team has found confidence, belief in their ability, a hunger and a toughness that they had seriously lacked last year. This is a team that will get to the finals at the end of the year if they keep what they have started so far this year.

Watching the Crows play a tough game against Geelong last week the players were exhausted when they hit the fourth quarter but they dug down deep and kept playing the game and they won the game.

Watching the Crows play against Carlton today, they played their game and didn’t let Carlton get to them at all. As the game progressed, Carlton was outclassed by the Crows players and Carlton lost by 69 points. Of course Carlton would say they only had 5 days rest and that’s why they weren’t playing their A game. Even if Carlton were playing their A game, I think they still would have lost today’s game with this vastly improved Adelaide Crows team.

Sando and coaching staff, whatever you’re doing with the players at the club, keep doing it! The players are responding to it and they are playing that tough, hard, football they should be playing. The players have a belief in themselves and the other players in the team and everyone is working together as a team. It makes watching this Crows team great to watch!

Bring on Collingwood next week!
